Age (as young as it still is) beat youth today at the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge as part of the 2008 NBA All-Star Game weekend in New Orleans.
Daniel Gibson of the Cavilers set a T-Mobile Rookie Challenge record with 11 3-pointers to lead the Sophomores to a 136-109 victory over the rookies. Gibson earned MVP honors for his performance, receiving six votes. Trail Blazer Brandon Roy received the other vote. Gibson was 11-of-20 for the night. But, what was even more amazing is that Gibson never shot from any other location than beyond the arc. As reported by PA Sports Ticker: "Yeah, it was unbelievable. It was special," he said. "I never imagined, never dreamed that I would come out and shoot the ball as well as I did in an environment and atmosphere like that. "So, right now, I don't really know what to say. I'm just excited and I'm happy I got the opportunity." Gibson now hopes to take his hot hand into the 3-Point Shootout on Saturday night. "I think coming into this tomorrow night, my confidence will be high, and, hopefully, I didn't use them all up," he said. Gibson's performance was cheered on by Cavaliers teammate LeBron James, who was sitting courtside.
With the Sophomores' win in '08, it marks the sixth straight win over the Rookies.
