According to Carmelo Anthony’s lawyer, the Denver Nuggets forward had a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit when he was arrested on April 14. As reported by ESPN: “We received noticed that Carmelo’s blood test came back over the legal limit,†attorney Dan Recht said, according to the report. “This is old news in that Carmelo has admitted from the beginning that he had been drinking and driving and he should not have been. Anthony, the third pick in the 2003 NBA draft, was pulled over on April 14 when an officer noticed him weaving and not dimming his lights. When he failed to pass several sobriety tests, he was charged with DUI and was later released. Melo apologized the next day, by saying: “I’m here to man up to my mistake, just to let you know that I’m truly sorry for what happened and everything that’s going on. What happened (on April 14) was truly and totally unacceptable.â€Â A May 14 court date has been set for the Nuggets’ forward. This isn’t the first time Anthony has experienced off the court issues. In 2004, Anthony was found to be carrying marijuana in his backpack at Denver International Airport. Charges were later dropped when one of Anthony’s friends took responsibility for the marijuana by signing an affidavit. In 2006, another friend of Anthony was charged with three traffic violations and possession of marijuana while driving Carmelo’s vehicle. During the 2006-07 season, Anthony was suspended for 15 games after landing a punch on the face of Mardy Collins during a brawl against the New York Knicks. Carmelo Anthony and his Nuggets face a critical off-season after losing in the first round of the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year. It appears as though coach George Karl will return next season, but the Anthony/Iverson combination has yet to net any positive results. Anthony will need to clean up his off the court activities, change his attitude and focus on basketball to prevent distraction.
