According to the Las Vegas Sun, Charles Barkley is being sued by the Wynn Las Vegas resort for failing to repay four $100,000 casino loans. As reported by ESPN:  “To date, and despite repeated demands, Barkley has refused to repay the $400,000,†the complaint said. Â
Clark County District Attorney David Roger said prosecutors would move forward with a criminal complaint should Barkley not repay the debt.  “He’ll have an opportunity like anybody else to make restitution to the hotel,†Roger added.  Barkley claims that his debt is a result of a bet on Super Bowl XLII, which is odd considering he received the loans in October of 2007.  However, the 11-time NBA All-Star did take responsibility for the debt.  “I’ve been gambling for 20 years. I’ve never had this happen before,†Barkley said. “It’s my fault I let the time lapse.† Now a basketball analyst for TNT, Barkley denied having financial problems.  “I’m not broke, and I’m going to take care of it,†he said.  Barkley could face up to four-felony theft or four-felony bad check charges. Each theft conviction would but him behind bars for one to 10 years. Each conviction on a felony bad check charge would mean one to four years in prison.  This isn’t the first time Barkley’s gambling problem has been in the news. During an ESPN interview in 2006, Barkley estimated he’d gambled away nearly $10 million over the years.  “Do I have a gambling problem? Yeah, I do have a gambling problem,†Barkley said. “But I don’t consider it a problem because I can afford to gamble.†Â
