TNT delivered a slam dunk with its exclusive coverage of Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference Finals, the most watched and highest rated NBA game on cable this year and the second most watched telecast of the year -- trailing only ABC’s telecast of Game 7 of the Cleveland Cavaliers/Boston Celtics second round series on May 18. The game featuring the Los Angeles Lakers @ San Antonio Spurs yielded a 4.8 US rating (5,394,000 households), a 49-percent increase over the network’s telecast of Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals last year.
Overall, the 2008 NBA Playoffs on TNT through 40 games are up 16-percent (2.6 US) over the same period last year (2.2 US). Additionally, the Western Conference Finals on TNT, through four games, have averaged a 4.1 US rating, a 37-percent increase over last year’s coverage (also through four games) of the Eastern Conference Finals.
The NBA Playoffs on TNT through 40 games have seen significant double-digit growth in key demos over the same period last year, including:
- +18% in homes (2,888,000 vs. 2,401,000)
- +17% in total viewers (3,730,000 vs. 3,108,000)
- +29% in A18-34 (1,201,000 vs. 914,000)
- +25% in A18-49 (2,209,000 vs. 1,722,000)
- +28% in A25-54 (2,016,000vs. 1,543,000)
- +33% in M18-34 (902,000 vs. 664,000)
- +26% in M18-49 (1,594,000 vs. 1,240,000)
- +25% in M25-54 (1,420,000 vs. 1,114,000)
